Upon learning Thursday of the Banking Department’s
decision, we immediately notified our members and advised that they
stop processing customer payments through CashPoint. Our primary concern
is the protection of the consumer and our ability to continue to service
our customers by providing alternative means for bill payment.
"It is our hope that every customer who made payments through CashPoint
will receive full credit for their payment," said Matt Bardach, president
of CCANY.
Check cashers -- like other organizations including Verizon and the
City of New York -- contracted with Cashpoint to provide consumer
services.
CashPoint is a separate, independent company that provides bill-paying
services to consumers through the Internet and other outlets, including
check cashers.
"It is important to note that CashPoint is NOT a check-cashing
company," said Bardach. "Contrary to some erroneous news reports, CCANY
members continue full operations, including cashing checks for consumers.
CCANY members are not a subject of the Banking Department’s action against
CashPoint."
"We continue to enjoy a strong working relationship with the State
Banking Department and remain in constant contact with them on this
issue," said Bardach.
CCANY has notified the New York State Banking Department that we will
work with them in any way possible and assist the Governor’s office -- and
all government agencies -- in this matter.
