Statement of Superintendent of Banks
Diana L. Taylor
on CashPoint Services Inc.
New York, NY, April 23, 2004 -- Superintendent of Banks Diana L.
Taylor assured consumers today that there are licensed check cashers,
money transmitters and banks that will provide consumers with a variety of
services to help them pay their bills or cash checks in the wake of
CashPoint Services Inc. being closed.
"It is important for all
consumers to understand that the only entity closed was CashPoint. All
other check cashers, money transmitters and banks are open and available
to do business. In fact, there are many other check cashers and money
transmitters licensed by the New York State Banking Department who provide
a valuable service to thousands of customers throughout New York State. To
obtain a list of these companies please call the New York State Banking
Department’s toll free number at 1-877-BANK-NYS or log on to our Website
at

"If you have already paid
a bill using CashPoint, and are concerned about your payment, you should
call the company to which the payment was meant to go. If you feel you did
not receive proper crediting to your account, you should work directly
with the creditor and be prepared to provide details related to your
transaction, including the date you paid the bill; the check casher agent
or other location where you paid the bill; the name of the entity you sent
payment to and a clear copy of your payment receipt, if available.
"If you find on your next
utility billing statement that unresolved issues remain,
call the company as well as the New York State Public Service Commission
at
1-800-342-3377."
