Scholarship Program
2012 FSCNY/MoneyGram International Scholarship recipients with Juan Melendez of MoneyGram (L) and Sanford Herman, Chairman of the scholarship program (R)
The Financial Service Centers of New York in conjunction with MoneyGram International is very proud of its college scholarship program.
Each year, FSCNY awards cash grants to outstanding high school seniors from public and private schools in NYC’s five boroughs and the surrounding counties. Through the Scholarship Program, FSCNY and MoneyGram International provide educational opportunities for young people many of whom return to their communities and contribute to improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers.
Students are selected based upon academic achievement, and leadership skills they demonstrate at school and in the community. The Committee selects five First place award winners that receive a minimum cash award in the amount of $4,000 towards the cost of their freshman year of study at an accredited two or four-year college or university. Five second place award winners receive a minimum of $2,000. Additionally, five third place award winners will receive a minimum of $500. In recent years, the Scholarship Committee has also selected one Grand Prize winner to receive a one time award of at least $7,500 towards the cost of college plus a computer system.
Since the program's inception, the FSCNY/Moneygram International Scholarship Program has awarded $555,000 in scholarships to help 252 deserving students attend Ivy League and other selective universities and colleges.
The 2012 scholarship winners were announced at the 20th Annual Conference & Exposition.
